The Development Group

The fledgling Baildon Runners Development Group was set up a couple of years ago and is aimed at our fastest and fast improving runners, giving them a chance to compete together in various competitions throughout the summer.

Last year brought great success for the club with our premier team featuring Quentin Lewis, Matthew Gurney and Emma Stoney winning the Washburn relay outright and then taking the mixed trophy at the Golden Acre relay. The development group isn’t just about winning though. The first year it was set-up I had only been running a few months and it gave me the opportunity to run in a team with some of the clubs faster and more experienced runners and ito be given that opportunity gave me a huge confidence boost. As well as the success previously mentioned all our other development teams performed brilliantly and showed great improvement from the previous year, which is the main aim.

The events we have competed at in the past are short trail race relays, approx. 3-mile legs in teams of 3. They all take place on evenings during July, so the weather is normally excellent and in true Baildon Runners tradition we always go for a celebratory drink afterwards!

We will be aiming to do these events again and maybe some others if possible, so I will be looking to put teams together in the next few months ready for the first event at Danefield, Otley Chevin.

I’ll update this page with more details as and when I get them, so watch this space!

Cheers

Dan Cobb

Washburn Relay

Brilliant news from the July 12th  2013 Washburn relay. 'Baildon A' team made up of Emma Stoney, Quentin Lewis and Matthew Gurney won the event, and brought home not one but two trophies, first overall and first mixed team out of around 50 teams, an exceptional performance. At this pace how long before we need a new trophy cabinet?
