West Yorkshire Winter League

The club competes in the West Yorkshire Winter League with 16 other local clubs. Each winter there are 6 races - each on a Sunday - over a distance between 4 and 5½ miles. The conditions are usually (very!) muddy. But everyone who does them has a good time and it’s all about taking part and competing with like minded runners from other local clubs. There is no cost to members personally because the league subscription fee is met from club funds.
The scoring is based on the first 7 men, of which 3 must be vets (35+), and first 4 ladies, of which 1 must be a vet (35+), from each club to finish. You get points according to your finishing position overall. Whilst there is only one race, there is separate scoring for men and ladies.
There is also a separate competition for veterans, known as vets for short (all runners over 35). The vets team is made up of the first 2 male vets to finish and the first lady vet finisher from each club.
Whilst you might think that you can’t be one of the first 7 Baildon Runners (men) or first 4 Baildon Runners (ladies) to finish, you might finish before the 7th male, or 4th lady, runner from another club. By doing so, the other club runner gets fewer points and this helps Baildon Runners to finish higher in the overall standings. So every club member, whatever their ability, can play their part.
If anyone is not a member of any of the clubs in the league but would like to take part they may do so for a small fee of £3 per event payable on the day.
We meet at the Ian Clough car park at the times stated to car share. This allows anyone without their own transport to take an active part in these events. Supporters are also most welcome.
